How We Test
Our testing and research methodology for exercise bikes, steppers, ab trainers and other home gym equipment.
Every review on Fitnesscart is labelled either Tested by us or Researched. Here is exactly what each label means.
Tested by us
When we test a product hands-on, we run it through the same checklist so results are comparable:
- Unboxing and assembly: timed, with tools needed and whether one person can do it alone.
- Footprint: measured in a real UK room, including folded size and weight where relevant.
- Noise: sound level measured at 1 metre at low, medium and high effort.
- Stability: wobble and creak at full effort, checked against the stated maximum user weight.
- Accuracy: console readings such as calories and heart rate compared against a chest strap or smartwatch.
- Real use: at least two weeks of regular workouts, logging what we liked, what annoyed us and anything that broke or squeaked.
- Original media: our own photos and video of the product in use.
Researched
When we have not used a product ourselves, we say so. Researched reviews are built from:
- Manufacturer specifications and manuals
- UK retailer listings, prices, delivery terms and warranties
- Patterns in verified owner reviews across several retailers, especially long-term reliability complaints
- Comparison against products we have tested
We never imply hands-on experience we do not have.
How we choose our picks
Products are ranked on value for UK buyers: fit for purpose, build quality, space and noise, warranty and price. Commission rates play no part in rankings.
Keeping guides up to date
Prices and stock change constantly. We review our main guides regularly and show the last-updated date on each one. If you spot something out of date, please tell us.
